Private Temple Tea Ceremony
The tea ceremony is one of Japan’s most sacred rituals and far more than simply the act of drinking tea. This experience will teach you the importance and symbolism of the practice in the unique setting of a 17th century temple teahouse.
Today, you will be met at your hotel by your guide who will be interpreting the tea ceremony for you and taken by taxi to Korin-in Temple. Not open to the public, the temple dates back to 1613 and its sculptured gardens something to behold. In these gardens is a Meiji period teahouse, where you will be met by your host and proceedings begin.
A highly ritualised art form born of respect and etiquette, the tea ceremony has been central to Japanese and Asian society for centuries and you will be taught how each intricacy has been deliberately refined and ritualised, and how this benefits the guest. During the ceremony, you will get to try the thick green tea and a Japanese sweet, as per hundreds of years of tradition.
After the ceremony, your guide will escort you by taxi back to your hotel or another area to explore independently should you prefer.
