Plantations and Coffee Processing
Enjoy a half day tour to visit some of Colombia's famous coffee plantations. Sample some of the finest brews and meet the makers of Colombia's favourite drink.
During your journey today, you will see how the coffee plants spread out as far as the horizon, interrupted only by "fincas" – small farms - and heliconia flowers. The harvest in Colombia happens year round, although the main period is in October and May/June. Most plantations in Colombia produce Arabica beans which produce a delicate and light tasting coffee which is widely recognized and consumed. Once the fruit is picked, the pulp is stripped away and the bean is cleaned and dried in the sun, the beans are exported or dried in preparation for sale, before being ground and made ready for human consumption.
You will begin your tour at 'Alto de La Paz' peak, before continuing on to one of the coffee 'haciendas' to see the plantations and production system in detail. Following this, you will visit the beautiful main house for an introductory chat about coffee production, as well as exploring the grounds to appreciate the work of the coffee pickers.
Heading back to the hacienda, you will taste various different brews, before returning to your hotel.
