Mysore Palace and local markets
Explore Mysore Palace, the former home of the Wodeyar family and experience Mysore specialities in the local markets.
Mysore Palace is the former residence of the Wodeyar family, a Hindu dynasty who ruled the Kingdom of Mysore from 1399 to 1761 and from 1799 to 1947. It is a splendid building, made in the Indo-Saracenic style. Among the many attractions of the palace is the magnificent gold throne which is displayed during the Dussehra festival celebrations. The Kalyana Mandapa (marriage hall) has paintings depicting the royal times of the Maharajas. After visiting the palace, you will explore the markets of Mysore. The market is 125 years old and with more than 700 stalls you will be overwhelmed with vibrancy, colours, sights and smells. You will also have the opportunity to discover Mysore’s specialities from sweets to natural incense, for which the city has been known for many years.
