Mount Popa and Toddy Farm Lunch
Discover the Popa Taung Kalat, a sacred monastery perched on top of a volcanic plug on the southwestern flank of Mount Popa. Discover the legend the surrounds this renowned pilgrimage site and ascend the 777 steps to the top.
You will be driven approximately one hour to Mount Popa, where you will visit Taung Kalat, a volcanic plug which forms the base of the gilded Popa Taung Kalat monastery, one of Burma's most sacred pilgrimage sites. Visit the museum, home to statues of the ‘nats’, guardian spirits worshiped by the Burmese people. Climb the almost 800 steps to the shrine and take in the stunning 360 views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Popa itself from the top. As you return to Bagan, you will stop at Shwe Hlaing where you can explore the village and see the toddy palm trees. Whilst at the village, enjoy a local lunch and learn of the farmers crafts such as their production of wine, before continuing the drive back to Bagan.
