Malang Tour and Temples
Visit a Hindu-Buddhist temple and an ancient Buddhist shrine, before heading into Malang to explore a fascinating exotic bird market.
The tour starts in the village of Jago, to the east of Malang, where you will visit Jajaghu temple, which is principally Buddhist but also embraces elements of Hinduism. After, you will visit Sumberawan Stupa, a Buddhist shrine dating back to the 12th-Century. The stupa has been partially renovated, having been discovered in a deteriorated state back in 1904.
Return to Malang and take a walk through the frantic maze of the bird market, Pasar Senggol. Weave your way through small alleys, navigating cages and birdseed, to the sound of the many different and colourful birds that are for sale, including: parakeets, cockatoos, budgerigars, Javan hawk-eagles, owls and even tree squirrels. Finish the tour at the old-school Toko Oen café and ice cream parlour.
