Jodhpur City Tour
A half day tour of Jodhpur, visiting Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and the silver, textile and handicraft markets in the clock tower area.
Founded in 1459, Jodhpur was once the capital of the Marwar State and a major trade centre in the 16th century because of its excellent location on the ancient silk route.
This half day tour of the city takes you to visit Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and a leisurely walk around the clock tower market area. Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest in India has a great number of palaces that stand within it. Most of them have sprawling courtyards and are intricately carved. One of these palaces, the Sileh Khana, has a display of old weapons, musical instruments, royal costumes and furniture. Close to the fort is the 19th century royal cenotaph, Jaswant Thada. This marble structure displays rare portraits of Jodhpur’s historical leaders. The market in the clock tower area sells textiles, silver and handicrafts.
