Itabaca Channel Kayaking & Giant Tortoise Reserve
A fitting introduction to the Galapagos: enjoy adventure activities and wildlife encounters along the Itabaca Channel before meeting the archipelago’s most famous inhabitant, the giant tortoise.
Upon arrival to the Galapagos, you’ll have time to change your clothes, apply suncream and enjoy a cool drink before your adventure begins and you’re taken to the Itabaca Channel to explore its turquoise waters and enjoy activities such as kayaking, snorkelling and stand-up paddle boarding. This is a great immediate introduction to some of the wildlife you'll encounter during your time in the Galapagos; be on the lookout for the iconic blue-footed booby, sea lion, brown pelican, white-tipped reef shark and a variety of heron. There's no better way to begin your Galapagos experience than by getting straight on the water! As you glide through beautiful mangrove forests and along lava rock cliffs, don't forget to look down: the water here is so clear that you'll be able to observe an array of sea life in the shallows. This activity will last for 1.5 to 2 hours and is graded easy to moderate. Kayaks are available for an individual or two people to share. Life jackets are provided and a support boat escorts you through all activities to guarantee safety and ensure drinking water is on hand. Snacks and towels are provided between activities. You will then head from the Ithaca Channel up into the Santa Cruz highlands to a reserve that borders the national park, inhabited by the famous giant tortoise. Enjoy lunch. Afterwards, transfer to your hotel in Puerto Ayora, dinner and overnight.
