Hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten
Exploring the recently built Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten is an opportunity to discover the teachings of Dudjom Rinpoche while enjoying some spellbinding views of the Punakha Valley below.
Built by Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Tshering Yangdon, this three-storey Chorten is reached via a bridge across the Mo Chhu and a steep climb, though one well-rewarded by stunning views over the picturesque Punakha Valley. Representing the teaching cycle of Dudjom Rinpoche, a great Nyingmapa master (1904-87), the deities of the Chorten are designed to quash enemies and divert influences that may damage the king and country, while also spreading peace and harmony. Best visited in the cool of the morning, this is a calm and tranquil spot from which to soak in the panoramas and delve more into Bhutan’s beliefs.
