Half-Day Tokyo Highlights
Using the extensive public transport system, join your guide to explore Japan’s vibrant capital on this half-day tour. This offers a great introduction to Tokyo’s history and key highlights, whilst helping you understand what makes Tokyo tick.
Today you will be met by your local guide at your hotel who will guide you through the city’s metro and overland train system to The Imperial Palace, home to Japan’s Imperial Family. While guests cannot enter the palace itself, the gardens are stunning and located in the modern financial hub of the city, creating a wonderful contrast between old and new.
You will then be taken north to see an example of old Tokyo in a region called Asukusa, home to Tokyo's oldest Buddhist temple of Senso-Ji. The area around the temple is an interesting collection of small shops and business well worth a look, as is wandering down the main street of Nakamise, which for centuries has been looking after travellers with souvenirs, snacks and treats.
You will end your tour with a visit to Meiji Shrine, built in the memory of Emperor Meiji in 1920, where your guide will offer an introduction to the Shintu rituals and beliefs throughout Japan. The shrine itself is located in stunning evergreen forests containing 350 species of plants donated from across Japan, making this a relaxing end to the tour. After visiting the Shrine, your guide will escort you back to your hotel.
