Half Day Trip to Muang Khoun
Muang Khoun is a quaint rural town close to the Plain of Jars, and was once the capital of the Xieng Khuang Province. Whilst perhaps its glory days are in the past, there are still impressive ruins and a serene seated Buddha statue to visit.
There are a number of temples and stupas in the area, many of which are in a fairly dilapidated state, having been reclaimed by nature. The town was invaded multiple times throughout the 19th century by Chinese and Vietnamese raiders, and the province was also heavily bombed during the America-Vietnam War.
