Half Day Hakone Arts & Crafts Tour
A great half-day tour in Hakone for those interested in both ancient and contemporary art, gardening, and crafts. Visiting the impressive Okada Museum of Art and Gora Park, with a craft activity included.
This delightful half-day tour of Hakone’s arts and crafts begins at the Okada Museum of Art, which opened in 2013. This remarkable exhibition space is an enormous 5,000 square meters, filled with Japanese, Chinese and Korean exhibits, from ancient to modern. All the works of art have been collected by businessman, Okada Kazuo. Once you have explored the impressive inside, head outside to stroll through the extensive 15,000 square meter gardens, scattered with trees and streams. Before you leave, soak your feet in the footbaths at the front of the building, with free-flowing water from the hot springs.
Next, you will head to Gora Park, which is a western style landscaped park that lies on a steep slope above Gora station, a great place to unwind and enjoy Hakone’s scenery and lovely views. This park is French in style and features a large attractive fountain and a rose garden. The park also has two greenhouses, one that houses a tropical botanical garden and one that houses a flower garden.
Head to Gora Park’s crafthouse to take part in an arts and crafts activity, such as making traditional ornaments with dried flowers, glass bead making, or glass blowing. Visitors are welcome to take their finished product home as a souvenir of the day out.
