Ghibli Museum and Nakano Walking Tour
In this full day tour, your guide will introduce you to Japan’s fascination with Anime and Manga with a visit to the museum of the famed Ghibli animation studios and a walking tour of Nakano, a hub for pop culture and all things alternative.
You’ll be met this morning by your guide who will take you via public transport to Mitaka, a city to the west of Tokyo where the Ghibli Museum is located. Perhaps Japan’s most famous animation studio, Studio Ghibli has been creating critically acclaimed anime features since 1986 and achieved huge international success with films such as Princesss Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle and the Oscar-winning Spirited Away. The Ghibli Museum is dedicated to the art of animation features, including a number of technological installations and children’s activities.
After visiting the museum, your guide will take you on the train to nearby Nakano, a rapidly evolving magnet for anime and manga fans and various Japanese subculture movements. In particular, the Nakano Broadway area is a haven for comics and other pop culture memorabilia, and a great place to people watch and look out for the latest crazes. End the day in one of the area’s ‘Maid Cafes’, where waitresses dress and act like French maids, giving you a wonderfully quirky conclusion to your day before your guide escorts you back to your hotel.
