Full Day Kanazwawa Highlights Tour
Famed for its excellently preserved heritage, Kanazawa is a wonderful and manageable city to explore and this full-day guided tour will take you through some of the highlights of the city using the brilliant public transport network.
This morning you will be met at your hotel by your specialist local guide who will assist you with travel to the incredible Kenrokuen Gardens. Formerly outer grounds to Kanazawa Castle, the gardens opened to the public in 1871 and have been classified as one of Japan’s three most beautiful gardens. The garden is a classic design of the Japanese strolling garden and has been designed to change with the seasons, making it a year-round delight.
You will next visit the castle itself, which has been restored beautifully and makes for an attractive walk from the gardens as you make your way to Kagayuzen Kaikan, a textile centre where you can see demonstrations of silk painting, which has been a practice in Kanazawa for centuries to decorate traditional Japanese kimono fabric.
Your guide will then escort you to the Samurai district, a fantastic area of the city cutting through several small canals where the Samurai used to live while serving the nearby castle. Here you will be able to explore one of the houses which has been restored. Another wonderful district is the Higashi Cha Geisha district, which like the Samurai district has been beautifully restored. You will explore the narrow streets and small shops which showcase locally produced products and techniques before ending the tour in the Shima Teahouse, for a cup of green tea to finish the day.
