Full Day Hiroshima and Sake Village Tour
This full day tour of Hiroshima and Saijo takes you to the delightful Shukkeien Garden with its tiny landscape scenes, before heading to atmospheric Saijo to learn about all things sake.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel for this fantastic tour of Hiroshima and Saijo. The day begins at the Shukkeien Garden, which translates in English as ‘shrunken-scenery garden’, and is a fascinating experience as there are mountains, forests and valleys remade in miniature in the garden’s landscape. The garden charmingly mimics natural formations and scenic views, through carefully looked after land and vegetation – anyone with green fingers will find this tour wonderful. The garden dates back to 1620, which was just after the completion of Hiroshima Castle and features many of the traditional aesthetic common in Japan’s gardens. Stroll along the winding path that connects the garden, journeying through all the tiny sceneries and ending at the pond in the middle surrounded by teahouses.
From Hiroshima, a short journey will bring you to Saijo, which is a small town east of the city, famous as one of the best areas in Japan for sake production. The streets that surround the station are grouped together and known as ‘Sake Brewery Street’, thanks to the several sake brewery stands on each. The tour will take you to eight of Saijo’s breweries, where you can learn about the brewing process, do some sake tasting, purchase a bottle of your own and soak up the unique traditional atmosphere in the area.
