One of the most spectacular hill stations established by the British between 1815 and 1847, Dharamsala is the headquarters of the Dalai Lama and offers the most terrific views of granite mountains, surrounded by forests of deodar.
Dharamsala has a strong Tibetan influence after the Dalai Lama settled in the upper section of Daramsala in McLeodganji in 1959. Monks in their red garments are often seen roaming the streets. Being the Tibetan exile center of India, many Tibetans have made this their home.
Dharamsala is a beautiful city to roam with many interesting sites, the Bazaar and the architecture. Dharamsala is a starting point for many main treks through the Ravi Valley and Chamba district. Take the day to roam and meet the locals of this high altitude city, explore the beautiful natural surroundings and breathe the fresh Himalayan air.
