Excursion to the DMZ
Hue was the site of one of the longest and most violent battles during the America-Vietnam War. Travel to the Demilitarised Zone to learn about the area's military history, including a trip into the underground tunnels used between 1966 to 1971.
On your way to the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) stop off to see some of the sites damaged during the war, including the La Vang Cathedral and Quang Tri Citadel, where one particular battle lasted 81 days.
Cross the Ben Hai River, which once delineated the border between North and South Vietnam, before reaching the village of Vinh Moc. Venture underground into the tunnel network which stretches 2.8 kilometres and was once the part-time home of more than 300 people.
Before heading back to Hue, stop at the Truong Son National Cemetery for a sombre walk amongst the gravestones of around 15,000 Vietnamese soldiers and civilians.
