Exchange for Change
Don’t miss this chance to make a small difference to the lives of local Balinese women, by spending half a day teaching some basic computer skills, or giving an English lesson, while hearing their individual stories.
The Rivers Oceans Lands Ecology (R.O.L.E.) Foundation is a not for profit humanitarian organisation based in Bali, whose aim is to promote environmental awareness and empower women. It has already helped 843 women escape the cycle of poverty through the Women’s Skills Education Programme, which offers free classes in literacy, English language, vocational and basic life skills. These classes are designed to help women access employment and achieve a sustainable income.
Destination Asia Indonesia is a partner in the R.O.L.E. Foundation, sponsoring five students each year, whose families cannot afford a college education. The organisation has developed a special half-day programme, which you can attend, to hear their stories of poverty, help to teach new skills, learn how unused soap from hotels can be recycled for poor communities in need of hygienic products and practice how to make Jamu, the traditional herbal medicine of Indonesia. This worthwhile trip is a chance to make a small difference to many women’s lives.
