Cooking and Cats
Join a hands-on cooking class preparing delicious Burmese dishes with a local family, before cuddling some rare Burmese Cats.
Begin your trip on a private boat to the southern stretches of the lake. When you arrive, take part in a cooking class at the Inthar Heritage House. Established by a local family, The Heritage House is involved in a number of activities which are aimed at preserving the culture of the Inthar, the lake’s indigenous people. A host from the heritage house will give you a brief introduction before you begin cooking.
To prepare for cooking, take a stroll through the House’s organic gardens and pick some fresh vegetables and herbs whilst learning about the traditional farming methods used by the Intha people. Return to the kitchen, grab and apron and a recipe book then get started. The chef and the centre’s students will be there to help guide you through making a selection of typical Intha dishes, whilst teaching you about the role that food plays in Intha culture. Once the dishes are finished, head to the dining room to taste your masterpieces! Before heading back to the hotel, make a visit at the breeding house for Burmese cats and be sure not to leave without having a cuddle with these rare animals.
