Colonial buildings tour
A tour of the British colonial buildings that surround B.B.D Square, which allows you to explore the historical, cultural and political past of this great city and the British empire.
This tour takes you to Dalhousie Square, Kolkata (originally known as Calcutta) which is not only the central business district of the city but also the seat of power of the state government. The square is now called B.B.D, which stands for Benoy, Badal and Dinesh, who were three young Indian independence fighters and it acts a memorial to them. The square is surrounded by British colonial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries and this tour showcases the most important of them. The fortune of the British empire is easily traceable through the architecture and you can immerse yourself in the history and politics of the area, from the Old Government House and the General Post Office to Job Charnock’s Tomb.
