Caracol, Rio Frio Cave and Pools
Visit the beautiful Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve and the largest archaeological site in Belize, Caracol. Covering over 30 square miles of dense jungle and with over 35,000 identified buildings, this Mayan site is extremely impressive.
You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and driven to the stunning Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve, a protected National Park home to native Belizean wildlife, beautiful Mayan ruins and a myriad of underground caves.
Upon arrival at Mountain Pine Ridge, you'll be amazed at the landscape. In 1999, a vast amount of the outer forest was ruined by Southern Pine Beetles and remains damaged today. It won't be until you enter the mountain area that the pine forest changes to a blanket of lush tropical rainforest. Here, you will enter the Chiquibul Forest Reserve where the ruins of Caracol lie; the largest archaeological site in Belize, spanning 30 square miles of dense jungle. Enjoy a private guided tour of the ruins as well as a picnic lunch. On your return to your hotel, you can stop and explore the Rio Pools and Rio Frio Caves.
