Batur's Youngest Crater and Volcano Cooking
Take an afternoon stroll with a difference across a volcanic lava landscape and up to the rim of one of Mount Batur’s youngest craters, where you can enjoy panoramic views and a spot of afternoon tea, cooked by the heat and pressure of the volcano.
This is a moderately challenging afternoon walk through the moonscape of lava flows and ash cones created by the recent eruptions of Mount Batur, crossing over frozen lava rock, scrubland and volcanic ash, before heading up an ash-cone to the rim of the volcano. Here you will enjoy panoramic views of Lake Batur, Mount Agung and Mount Abang and discover the craters, fumaroles and mini stalactites left by the volcanic steam.
The tour ends with afternoon tea cooked by your guide in one of the volcano-ovens, which is a specially prepared steam vent that has been blocked to create pressure for cooking food. After enjoying your meal and descending the mountain, your guide will drive you back to your hotel.
