Bagan Temple Tour
Spend the day exploring a range of sites in Bagan, offering a great overview of the history and culture of this ancient city. Discover some of the more famous temples, some lesser known gems, visit traditional workshops and travel by horsecart.
The day begins with a visit to one of the more elevated temples where you will be rewarded from the top with stunning views over the plains, the perfect introduction for what you are about to explore. The rest of the morning will be spent touring some of Bagan’s most impressive temples including the golden Shwezigon Pagoda for a great introduction to Bagan’s history, Wetkyi-In Gubyaukgyi, a cave temple adorned with fantastic mural paintings and the Ananda Temple, containing two Buddha images whose expressions appear to change depending on how far away you view them.
In between exploring some different temples, stops will be made at the Nyaung Oo Market to experience the buzz of local life and to a traditional lacquerware workshop to learn about the production of the Burma’s most well-known handicraft. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing horse carriage journey into the plains, passing farms, traditional houses and more temples.
The day draws to a close as you ascend one of the taller temples to watch the sun set over the temple strewn plains, a truly magical sight that will not be forgotten in a hurry.
