Art Galleries of Yangon
Explore a selection of Yangon’s finest galleries a local guide, learning about the development of Burma’s burgeoning art scene as you browse paintings, sculptures, photographs, antiques and drawings from the tradition to the modern.
This excursion is a great option for anyone with a keen interest in art, as you see Burma’s colourful history reflected through each artist’s creative style, and how this has evolved over the years. Accompanied by your guide, you will visit at least three art galleries with the specific itinerary subject to change depending on exhibitions, timings and personal interest.
After a lunchtime collection from your hotel by your guide and driver, you will travel for a short while to downtown Yangon, a hub for art galleries in the city. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a charity-run restaurant before heading to Pansodan Arts to see a selection of artwork from the traditional to modern styles. You will also have the chance to enter the store-room to see the hundreds of paintings depictions everything from war time propaganda and classic line drawings. Before leaving downtown, visit the latest addition to Yangon’s art scene, Sule Elain, a loft space featuring rotating exhibitions.
You will then be taken to River Gallery in The Strand Hotel, which features a range of contemporary art, and the Lawkanat Gallery, a non-profit gallery that showcases a small collection of traditional works. The art tour comes to an end at the New Treasure Gallery, set up by one of Burma’s most famous artists well known for capturing the country’s unique spiritual aspect.
