Amman Walking Tour
Accompanied by a private guide, explore the historic highlights of Amman, including the ancient Citadel which sits on the highest hill in the capital, and the impressive Roman Theatre. Along the way you will pass through bustling streets and markets.
Amman’s Citadel sits atop Jabal al-Qal’a in downtown Amman, offering commanding views across the old city from one of the seven jabals (mountains) that made up historic Amman. The Citadel boasts a variety of architecture ranging from the Bronze Age all the way through to the 13th century. The Roman Temple of Hercules, the Byzantine Empire church ruins, and the Umayyad Palace welcome hall provide the most spectacular remnants from the previous inhabitants of the Citadel, and the Jordan Archaeological Museum is well worth a quick look too.
The Roman Amphitheatre sits at the foot of the Amman Citadel and is a superb example of Roman architecture dating back to the 2nd century. Seating 6,000 people and built in three tiers, the amphitheatre continues to offer entertainment with concerts held during the summer since major restoration began in 1957.
