Alleppey by foot
Alleppey is the heart of Kerala’s backwaters. Touring the town by foot can open your eyes to its history as well as witnessing beautiful countryside scenery and experiencing modern market life.
Alleppey is a small town in Kerala’s backwaters, made up of a huge number of waterways and thousands of fascinating houseboats. It has a busy centre, but the green banks of its waterways are lush and relaxing and as you walk along the canals you will experience views of paddy fields surrounded by traditional village life. The Preserve Alleppey Project, started in 2000 by the Lion Ladies Club of Alleppey, conducts the walking tour. You will learn about the history and unique features of the town before walking through the Gujarati Quarters, the canal banks and an old wholesale market. Light refreshments are served at the end of the tour in the gallery of The Preserve Alleppey Project.
