A Family Day in Yangon
A great option for families, this full day sightseeing excursion takes you explore vibrant markets, the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda and Yangon's central park, ending with a visit to a local sweet shop for ice-cream.
The tour begins with a visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda, a major landmark of the city and Burma's most revered religious site. The sheer size and beauty of this complex is utterly awe-inspiring, while children can be entertain tossing coins into bowls to make wishes and making offerings at the 'animal posts' at the corners of the main stupa. As you leave the pagoda, make a short stop at the religious market at the base of the temple, selling everything from monk robes to alms bowls.
Continue on to Mahawizaya Temple, where you will have the chance to feed the fish. A way for local Buddhists to earn merit, feeding the fish is a great activity for both children and adults, with some of the giant fish swimming to the surface to collect the treats you throw in. Next, travel by car to Yangon's bustling Bogyoke Market. Also known as Scott's Market, spend some time exploring the hundreds of stalls and shops, one of the best places to pick up local handicrafts and souvenirs in the city. There is also an opportunity to take a family photo here, the perfect way to capture the day in Yangon.
Around midday, you will continue to Kandawgyi Park to relax and enjoy lunch. Containing lush gardens, shady paths and a large lake, the park is a very popular gathering spot for local families. Mid-afternoon, you will be taken back to downtown Yangon to enjoy an ice cream at a local sweet shop, before heading back to your hotel.
