A Day on Floreana Island
Today you will travel to Floreana Island to explore the home of the first, and smallest human population in the Galapagos.
After an early breakfast you will leave Santa Cruz and head to Floreana Island on a speedboat. Floreana is home to approximately 150 people, making it the least developed and most natural of the four inhabited islands, with descendants of the first human population in the Galapagos still living here.
Upon arrival, you will be take an open-air ‘chiva bus’ to Floreana Lava Lodge, overlooking a beautiful and secluded bay. Here you can learn about the fascinating and mysterious history of the island first hand from one of the descendants of the original inhabitants. Once settled, you can enjoy walking, kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding to Black Beach, where you can snorkel before lunch. In the afternoon, you can head back out on the water to La Loberia, a sea-lion breeding ground, where you can swim with turtles, sealions, rays and a huge variety of tropical fish. As the evening draws to a close, you can watch the spectacular sunset before heading into the local village for dinner.
